The short version: EpicViz runs entirely inside Atlassian's infrastructure. Your Jira data is never sent to EpicViz servers, never sent to third-party AI providers, and never stored by EpicViz. We read your epic data, generate a diagram using Atlassian-hosted AI, and display it — all within Atlassian's platform.
1. Who we are
EpicViz is a Jira app published by Chris Castle, Inc ("we", "us", "our"). EpicViz is available on the Atlassian Marketplace and operates as an Atlassian Forge app. You can contact us at [email protected].
2. How EpicViz works
EpicViz is built on Atlassian Forge, Atlassian's serverless app platform. All backend function execution happens inside Atlassian's own cloud infrastructure — EpicViz does not operate any servers of its own.
When you generate a diagram, EpicViz:
- Reads your epic's title, description, labels, and components from Jira via the Jira REST API
- Reads the summaries of child issues (stories, tasks, bugs) linked to the epic
- On paid plans: also reads child issue descriptions for richer diagram context
- Passes this data to Claude, an AI model hosted by Atlassian via the Forge LLMs API
- Renders the AI response as an interactive diagram in your Jira issue panel
This entire flow happens within Atlassian's infrastructure. No data is routed through EpicViz servers or any external AI provider.
3. What data we access
EpicViz requests the following Jira permission:
- read:jira-work — read access to Jira issues, epics, and child issues
Within that permission, EpicViz reads only the following fields from the epic you are viewing and its child issues:
- Issue key (e.g. KN-4)
- Summary (issue title)
- Description (epic and, on paid plans, child issues)
- Labels
- Components
- Issue type (Epic, Story, Task, Bug, etc.)
EpicViz does not access assignees, reporters, comments, attachments, worklogs, custom fields, or any other Jira data beyond the fields listed above.
4. What data we store
EpicViz does not store any Jira data. Diagrams are generated in real time and displayed in your browser. No issue data, diagram output, or user information is persisted to any database operated by EpicViz.
Atlassian may store logs of Forge function invocations as part of their standard platform operations. These logs are governed by Atlassian's Privacy Policy.
5. Third-party services
EpicViz uses no third-party services of its own. The AI used for diagram generation is Claude, accessed via Atlassian's Forge LLMs API. Atlassian acts as the intermediary and hosts the model within their own infrastructure. EpicViz does not directly call Anthropic's API or any other external AI service.
EpicViz does not use analytics tools, advertising networks, session recording tools, or any other third-party data processors.
6. Cookies and tracking
EpicViz does not set cookies. The EpicViz app panel runs inside a Jira iframe managed by Atlassian. Any cookies present on Atlassian pages are set by Atlassian, not EpicViz.
This marketing website (epicviz.chriscastle.com) does not use analytics or tracking scripts.
7. Billing and payments
EpicViz subscriptions are managed and billed entirely through the Atlassian Marketplace. EpicViz does not process payments directly and does not collect or store payment card information. Billing is governed by Atlassian's Privacy Policy and Marketplace terms.
8. Data residency
Because EpicViz runs entirely on Atlassian Forge, data residency is determined by your Atlassian organization's data residency settings. EpicViz does not independently store or transfer data across regions.
9. Children's privacy
EpicViz is a business productivity tool intended for use by Jira users in organizational settings. It is not directed at children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
10. Your rights
Because EpicViz does not store personal data independently of Atlassian, requests to access, correct, or delete your data should be directed to your Atlassian organization administrator or to Atlassian directly.
If you have a privacy question specific to EpicViz, contact us at [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated via the Atlassian Marketplace listing or by email to the billing contact on your Atlassian account.
