Your Epics,
Diagrammed
Instantly

EpicViz reads your Jira epic and child issues, then generates production-quality architecture diagrams — flowcharts, C4, and sequence diagrams — directly in the issue panel. No copy-pasting. No Lucidchart tabs.

How it works

From epic to diagram
in three steps

EpicViz runs inside your Jira issue — no external app to configure, no API keys to manage as a user.

Step 01

Open any Epic

Navigate to a Jira epic in any company-managed project. The EpicViz panel appears automatically in the issue view — no configuration needed.

Step 02

Choose your diagram type

Select from Flowchart, C4 Context, C4 Container, or Sequence Diagram depending on what you want to communicate — architecture, user flows, or service interactions.

Step 03

Generate and share

Click Generate. EpicViz reads your epic's title, description, labels, and all child issues, then produces a clean diagram in seconds. Copy the Mermaid source or screenshot the SVG.

Diagram types

The right diagram
for every conversation

Different stakeholders need different views. EpicViz generates all four — you just switch the dropdown.

Flowchart

Component Flowchart

Maps the components and data flows of your epic. Color-coded by layer — frontend, backend, data stores, external services.

Best for: engineering reviews, onboarding, sprint planning

C4 Context

C4 Context Diagram

High-level system map showing users, the system under development, and external dependencies. Ideal for stakeholder presentations.

Best for: architecture reviews, product documentation, stakeholder communication

C4 Container

C4 Container Diagram

Service-level architecture within the system boundary. Shows containers, their technologies, and how they communicate.

Best for: technical design docs, microservices mapping, infrastructure planning

Sequence

Sequence Diagram

Step-by-step interaction timeline between services. Shows request/response flows and which systems are involved at each stage.

Best for: API design, debugging, async flow documentation

Everything you need,
nothing you don't

GPT-4o Under the Hood

EpicViz uses GPT-4o with diagram-specific system prompts tuned for clean, publication-quality Mermaid output — not generic AI slop.

Runs on Atlassian Forge

All function calls execute on Atlassian's own serverless infrastructure. Your Jira data never touches a third-party server outside of Atlassian's platform.

One Click, 10 Seconds

No export, no import, no Lucidchart tab. Open your epic, click Generate, and the diagram is live inside the issue panel.

Reads Your Child Issues

EpicViz fetches all stories, tasks, and bugs linked to the epic and uses them as context — so the diagram reflects your actual work, not just the epic description.

Regenerate Anytime

As your epic evolves, regenerate the diagram with one click. Switch diagram types without losing your epic context — EpicViz re-reads fresh every time.

View Raw Mermaid Source

Toggle to source view to copy the raw Mermaid syntax. Paste it into any docs tool, Confluence page, or GitHub README that supports Mermaid rendering.

FAQ

Common questions

What is EpicViz for Jira?
EpicViz is an Atlassian Forge app that adds an AI-powered diagram panel to every Jira epic. It reads your epic's summary, description, labels, and all child issues, then uses GPT-4o to generate architecture diagrams — flowcharts, C4 context diagrams, C4 container diagrams, and sequence diagrams — directly inside the Jira issue view. No external tools, no copy-pasting.
How does EpicViz generate diagrams from Jira data?
When you click Generate, EpicViz reads your epic's metadata (title, description, labels, components) and all child issues (stories, tasks, bugs) via the Jira API. It passes this context to GPT-4o with specialized diagram instructions, then renders the returned Mermaid syntax as an SVG diagram using Mermaid.js. The entire process takes under 10 seconds.
What diagram types does EpicViz support?
EpicViz supports four diagram types:

Flowchart — component and data flow relationships, color-coded by layer.
C4 Context — high-level system boundaries, users, and external dependencies.
C4 Container — service-level architecture inside your system boundary.
Sequence Diagram — step-by-step interaction flows between services and actors.
Does EpicViz work with team-managed Jira projects?
EpicViz uses Jira's issue panel module, which is only available in company-managed projects. Team-managed projects do not support third-party issue panels. If your project is team-managed, you'll need to create a new company-managed project or ask your Jira admin to migrate the project type.
Is my Jira data secure? What gets sent to OpenAI?
EpicViz runs on Atlassian Forge, which means all function execution happens on Atlassian's own serverless infrastructure — your data never touches an EpicViz server. The only external call is to OpenAI's API for diagram generation. Only the epic's title, description, labels, and child issue summaries are included in the prompt. No issue IDs, assignee names, comments, or personal data are sent to OpenAI.
Can I use EpicViz to generate C4 architecture diagrams automatically?
Yes — EpicViz is one of the only Jira apps that generates C4 architecture diagrams (both C4 Context and C4 Container) automatically from your epic data. Simply select C4 Context or C4 Container from the diagram type dropdown in the EpicViz panel and click Generate.
How is EpicViz different from Lucidchart or Miro for Jira?
Lucidchart and Miro are whiteboard tools — you draw diagrams manually and can embed them in Jira. EpicViz is the opposite: it generates diagrams automatically from your existing Jira epic data, with no manual drawing. It's faster for documentation and architecture reviews because the diagram reflects what's already in Jira, not what you remembered to add to a whiteboard.
Is there a free version?
Yes. The Free tier supports up to 10 Jira users with 10 AI-generated diagrams per month and Flowchart diagram type. No credit card required, and there is no time limit on the free tier. Paid plans start at $2.50 per user per month (billed annually) and include unlimited diagrams and all four diagram types.
